This Cookie and SDK Notice explains how After Dark Society, LLC uses cookies, mobile software development kits, pixels, local storage, device identifiers, analytics tools, crash-reporting tools, and similar technologies on AfterDarkSociety.com, the AfterDark Society mobile applications, and any related websites, applications, communities, messaging tools, features, and services that link to this notice. In this notice, we refer to those services collectively as the “Platform.”

The Platform is operated by After Dark Society, LLC (“After Dark Society,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

This notice supplements our Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy explains more broadly how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information.

1. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

Cookies are small text files placed on your browser or device when you visit a website.

Mobile SDKs are tools included in mobile applications that can collect or process information from your device or app activity.

Pixels, tags, local storage, device identifiers, analytics tools, crash-reporting tools, and similar technologies may collect or store information about your browser, device, settings, app activity, Platform activity, and interactions with content or features.

In this notice, we refer to all of these technologies collectively as “cookies and similar technologies.”

2. Technologies We May Use

Depending on how you access the Platform, we may use:

  • browser cookies;
  • mobile SDKs;
  • pixels and tags;
  • local storage;
  • session storage;
  • device identifiers;
  • advertising identifiers, if enabled;
  • analytics tools;
  • crash-reporting tools;
  • fraud-prevention tools;
  • security tools;
  • authentication tools;
  • preference-management tools;
  • content-delivery and performance tools;
  • payment, subscription, and purchase-support tools;
  • push-notification tools; and
  • similar technologies.

Not every technology is used in every part of the Platform.

  • deliver push notifications where enabled;

  • understand how users interact with the Platform;
  • improve features, design, and usability;
  • route traffic;
  • balance load;
  • detect outages and technical issues;
  • enforce Platform policies;
  • support moderation, safety, and compliance; and
  • comply with legal, payment-processor, card-network, app-store, security, and operational requirements.

5. Categories of Cookies and Similar Technologies

We may use the categories described below.

5.1 Strictly Necessary Technologies

Strictly necessary technologies are required to operate the Platform or provide features you request.

These technologies may be used for:

  • login and authentication;
  • account security;
  • session management;
  • fraud prevention;
  • age-gating and access control;
  • cookie-preference management;
  • subscription and payment-flow support;
  • load balancing;
  • network security;
  • error prevention;
  • legal compliance; and
  • Platform stability.

You may be able to block these technologies through your browser or device settings, but doing so may prevent parts of the Platform from working.

5.2 Preference Technologies

Preference technologies help remember your choices and settings.

These technologies may be used for:

  • language settings;
  • display preferences;
  • account settings;
  • NSFW content preferences;
  • notification preferences;
  • location-feature settings;
  • blocked, muted, hidden, or filtered content preferences;
  • cookie choices; and
  • similar settings.

5.3 Analytics and Performance Technologies

Analytics and performance technologies help us understand how the Platform is used and how it performs.

These technologies may be used for:

  • traffic measurement;
  • feature usage analysis;
  • app performance;
  • website performance;
  • crash reporting;
  • bug diagnosis;
  • product improvement;
  • testing;
  • troubleshooting;
  • aggregate reporting; and
  • operational analytics.

5.4 Security, Fraud-Prevention, and Compliance Technologies

Security, fraud-prevention, and compliance technologies help protect the Platform, users, and our business operations.

These technologies may be used for:

  • detecting bots;
  • detecting fake accounts;
  • preventing account takeover;
  • preventing scraping;
  • detecting suspicious activity;
  • preventing payment fraud;
  • preventing chargeback abuse;
  • supporting age and identity verification;
  • enforcing policies;
  • protecting against spam and abuse;
  • supporting child-safety, anti-trafficking, and nonconsensual-content enforcement; and
  • complying with legal, payment-processor, card-network, app-store, and security requirements.

5.5 Communications and Notification Technologies

Communications and notification technologies help deliver or manage messages, emails, push notifications, in-app notices, service notices, safety notices, subscription notices, support communications, and marketing communications where permitted.

You can manage certain communications through account settings, email unsubscribe links, device settings, or app notification settings.

5.6 Advertising and Targeting Technologies

We do not currently use cookies or similar technologies to sell personal information for money or to share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not currently use cookies or similar technologies for targeted advertising.

If we begin using advertising or targeted-advertising technologies in the future, we will update this notice and provide any choices required by applicable law.

6. Third-Party Technologies

We may allow service providers and third parties to use cookies and similar technologies on or through the Platform.

These may include providers that support:

  • hosting;
  • cloud storage;
  • content delivery;
  • authentication;
  • security;
  • fraud prevention;
  • age and identity verification;
  • analytics;
  • crash reporting;
  • customer support;
  • email delivery;
  • push notifications;
  • payments;
  • subscriptions;
  • app-store functionality;
  • compliance;
  • moderation; and
  • technical operations.

These providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies where applicable.

We do not control all third-party technologies or third-party privacy practices.

7. Mobile App Technologies

When you use the mobile applications, mobile SDKs and device permissions may process information needed for app functionality.

Depending on your device settings, app settings, and permissions, mobile technologies may support:

  • login;
  • account security;
  • push notifications;
  • image and video upload;
  • camera access;
  • photo-library access;
  • approximate location features;
  • messaging;
  • subscription management;
  • in-app purchases;
  • crash reporting;
  • diagnostics;
  • analytics;
  • fraud prevention;
  • moderation;
  • safety; and
  • app performance.

You can manage many mobile permissions through your device settings.

If you disable certain permissions, some Platform features may not work or may be limited.

8. Approximate Location and Device Settings

Some cookies and similar technologies may process approximate location information, such as location inferred from IP address or device settings.

The Platform may also include location-based features, such as nearby discovery, maps, events, search, radius controls, or location privacy settings.

You can manage certain location permissions through your device settings and certain location-related preferences through Platform settings where available.

9. Your Choices

Depending on your location, device, browser, and Platform settings, you may have choices about cookies and similar technologies.

These choices may include:

  • using cookie settings or consent tools we provide;
  • adjusting browser settings to block or delete cookies;
  • adjusting mobile-device permissions;
  • resetting or limiting advertising identifiers where available;
  • managing analytics or diagnostic settings where available;
  • managing push notifications;
  • using privacy controls in your account settings;
  • using legally recognized opt-out preference signals where applicable; and
  • contacting us to exercise privacy rights available under applicable law.

If you block or delete cookies or disable mobile permissions, some Platform features may not work properly.

10. Browser Controls

Most browsers allow you to block, delete, or limit cookies.

Your browser settings may also allow you to control third-party cookies, clear local storage, or receive notices before cookies are placed.

Browser controls are device-specific and browser-specific. If you use multiple browsers or devices, you may need to apply your choices separately.

11. Mobile Controls

Mobile operating systems may allow you to control:

  • app permissions;
  • approximate or precise location access;
  • push notifications;
  • camera access;
  • photo-library access;
  • microphone access;
  • device identifiers;
  • advertising identifiers;
  • background app activity; and
  • analytics or diagnostics sharing.

Your mobile settings may affect how the Platform works.

12. Opt-Out Preference Signals

Where required by applicable law, we will recognize legally required opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, for the browser or device through which the signal is sent.

Because opt-out preference signals may be browser-specific or device-specific, you may need to enable them separately on each browser or device you use.

13. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting.

There is no uniform industry standard for responding to Do Not Track signals. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals unless required by law.

We may recognize other legally required opt-out preference signals as described in this notice and in our Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to This Notice

We may update this Cookie and SDK Notice from time to time.

When we make material changes, we may notify users by posting the updated notice, updating the “Last updated” date, sending an email, providing an in-platform notice, using a cookie banner or consent tool, using a click-through notice, or using another method reasonably designed to notify affected users.

Your continued use of the Platform after an updated notice becomes effective means you acknowledge the updated notice.
